I’m very sorry to disappoint you. The USMC are really good soldiers, reasonably okay marines. That’s it. The Royal Netherlands Marines / UK Royal Marines (the two oldest corps in the world, btw.) are trained better. They also perform better. They just lack the enormous amount of equipment the USMC deems necessary. It takes 2 years of training to make one. They don’t have Hell Week once, but many times during that training. During training exersises they outperform regular US marines. As for other smaller nations: they train to what they deem necessary. Often an elite unit is elite for different, usually political reasons. I’ve seen the Royal Thai army and marines in training. Nothing bad about the enlisted men. Tough bunch, you don’t want to mess around with them. Problem is the officer corps. In one word: pathetic. The higher the officer, the bigger clown it becomes. josflachs | Jul 24, 2009 100% truse a Well armed well equiped with good morale[and im just saying standart wepons]can beat contries like turkey, irak[if 1on 1 not 1vs remote mine]sweden and most asian contries Cenkminator | Jul 23, 2009 Yes. Which is funny because the branch of the military that is the USMC is not itself an elite force. It is a light infantry force trained in thriftiness and frugality in order to perform as a first response off of naval vessels with limited supply and logistical support. Matthew D | Jul 23, 2009 Here we go again the USMC is ONLY the Navy’s soldiers They are NOT and never have been Special Forces in WW2 in the Pacific they did no more than the soldiers that were involved in the amphibious landings in Operation Torch ( NO USMC involvement ) and In D Day the soldiers of the combined forces did Another Magnificent Amphibious landing Without the USMC the trouble with the USMC is their EGO they are only the NAVY’S soldiers Employed by the department of the Navy there Is only One Elite Special force that the world Copies and that is the SAS Who Dares Wins and ask a D Force or a Seal member befor the Thumbs down as without a ling you are blowing Hot air Battles are fought with firepower, military hardware and technology, strategy and to great extent, luck. The standard of the WW2German soldier was legandary. firstly the USMC as a whole id not considered an elite force by anyone, they do however contain units within the USMC that can be considered elite in their own particular fields of expertise, i,e force recon and the sniper branch. to give you some idea of how far off the average marine is from elite status the following should give you some idea the USMC physical fitness test is given toward the end of a marines training, it is a series of timed physical tests the marine has to pass in order to pass-out, i.e a certain amount of sit ups, press up, pull up shuttle runs etc in a time period the marine will have been working up to this standard throughout his training. in the Royal Marines the USMC test is used on recruits before they even begin basic training each prospective recruit has to spend a weekend at the training base, while there he has to PASS the USMC test to be considered for BASIC TRAINING. if he fails the test he can’t join and begin his 32 week training (the longest and toughest infantry training course in the world) so to join the royal marines a person has to be as fit as a fully trained USMC solider before he can even begin his training. that is the sort of standard needed to be considered elite however the rifle regiments of the USMC have a long and proud tradition with battle honours that any nations armies would be proud to have on their flags, while i agree that I would still expect a squad of USMC riflemen to win a pound for pound fight against a ‘weak nations’ forces I don’t agree with your statement about them winning with minimal effort and lots of ease. as Iraq and Afghanistan have shown, all some clown needs is one eye and enough fingers to operate an AK47 or RPG for a marine to die. there is not such thing as an easy fight, you don’t need any training to fire a weapon and kill someone.
